What Is Egress Transfer Cost?
Egress transfer cost is the fee for data that flows out of a cloud provider network boundary, typically to the public internet or across regions. Inbound traffic is often free, but outbound bytes are metered per gigabyte. These charges accumulate quietly and can dominate the bill for data-heavy or cross-region architectures.
Why it matters
Egress is easy to overlook because it is not a line item teams provision directly, yet it scales with traffic. Keeping chatty services co-located and caching at the edge reduces the bytes that incur egress charges.
