CI workflow (egoist/tsup)
The CI workflow from egoist/tsup, explained and optimized by Latchkey.

This is the CI workflow from the egoist/tsup repository, a real project running GitHub Actions. It is shown here with attribution under its MIT license.
Below, Latchkey shows a faster, safer version produced by its optimization engine.
The workflow
name: CI
on:
push:
branches:
- main
pull_request:
branches:

jobs:
test:
strategy:
matrix:
os: [ubuntu-latest, windows-latest]
node-version: [18, 20, 22]
runs-on: ${{ matrix.os }}
# Steps represent a sequence of tasks that will be executed as part of the job
steps:
# Checks-out your repository under $GITHUB_WORKSPACE, so your job can access it
- uses: actions/checkout@v4
- uses: pnpm/action-setup@v4.1.0
name: Install pnpm
- uses: actions/setup-node@v4
with:
node-version: ${{ matrix.node-version }}
cache: pnpm
- name: Install deps
run: pnpm i
# Runs a set of commands using the runners shell
- name: Build and Test
run: pnpm test
The same workflow, on Latchkey
Removes redundant runs and caps runaway jobs. Added and changed lines are highlighted.
name: CI on: push: branches: - main pull_request: branches: - main concurrency: group: ${{ github.workflow }}-${{ github.ref }} cancel-in-progress: true jobs: test: timeout-minutes: 30 strategy: matrix: os: [ubuntu-latest, windows-latest] node-version: [18, 20, 22] runs-on: ${{ matrix.os }} # Steps represent a sequence of tasks that will be executed as part of the job steps: # Checks-out your repository under $GITHUB_WORKSPACE, so your job can access it - uses: actions/checkout@v4 - uses: pnpm/action-setup@v4.1.0 name: Install pnpm - uses: actions/setup-node@v4 with: node-version: ${{ matrix.node-version }} cache: pnpm - name: Install deps run: pnpm i # Runs a set of commands using the runners shell - name: Build and Test run: pnpm test
What changed
- Cancel superseded runs when a branch or PR gets a newer push.
- Add a job timeout so a hung step cannot burn hours of runner time.
1 third-party action is referenced by a movable tag. Pin it to the commit SHA (Latchkey resolves and applies this automatically) so a repointed tag cannot change what runs.
This workflow runs 1 job (6 with the matrix expanded) per trigger. On Latchkey the same minutes cost up to 58% less than GitHub-hosted, with zero queue time.
